The threshold is instrumental to the continuous smooth running of the bi-folding door. On the recommendation of Origin, it’s advisable to have a weathered threshold (also known as a ‘rebated’ threshold) embedded into the floor, which will create a minimal lip of just 14mm from the outside to the inside. This feature enables the bottom seal of a bi-folding door to press against the lip and establish a firm weatherseal.
A non-weathered threshold will offer you a perfectly flat transition between the indoors and doors as it doesn’t have a raised section. The problem with that though is the door seal then can’t press against a solid lip, giving you very little protection against the elements. They’re best used for internal and sheltered spaces only.
